Grants for women’s groups in South Africa

Grants are available through the Wheat Trust to help women-led organisations gain access to capacity building and training.

Your group or CBO must have been in operation for at least two years, must be a women-led or the majority of leaders must be women (85-100%) and the organisation must have a minimum of three members. One member or a group can be nominated.

Individuals must be committed to community and social development in their local community structures for at least two years.

Accra High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness

This forum will be held in Accra, Ghana on 31 August and 1 September.

The Marketplace of Ideas will promote information sharing, cross-fertilization of knowledge and approaches, and learning among the HLF participants by showcasing good and innovative practices and lessons in aid effectiveness.

Nine half-day Roundtables, most building on the work of international working groups, will provide participants an opportunity for in-depth discussion to facilitate and support work on aid effectiveness.

Keynote speakers are to be confirmed, but names include Mary Robinson, Prof Alpha Konare, chairman, African Union Commissioner, and President Jimmy Carter of the US.

DPI/NGO conference in Paris 3-5 September

The 61st annual conference for NGOs associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) will be held in Paris at UNESCO headquarters from 3 to 5 September.

This is the first time it has taken place away from UN headquarters in New York.

This year’s conference celebrates the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is entitled ‘Reaffirming Human Rights for All: The Universal Declaration at 60’.

The conference aims to highlight effective ways in which civil socity, in partnership with other actors, can contribute to the advancement of human rightsa t the international, regional, national and local levels, generate greater awareness of human rights issues and strengthen commitments to address them among diverse stakeholders worldwide.
