• Capacity Building Organisations
  These organisations provide training and other support in a range of areas including general management, financial management and governance. Some work locally in a specific region or country.
• Civil Society Networks
  These organisations publish news letters covering issues relevant to philanthropy an fundraising (e.g. legal tax issues, impact and effectiveness), and hold workshops and conferences. 
• International NGOs 
  Listed are some of the leading international NGOS. Some have very effective fundraising programmes from which local NGO fundraisers can learn. Some of these organisations make grants to local partners.
• National Fundraising Associations 
  In an increasing number of countries local associations of fundraisers are forming. Local associations can be a very useful way to connect with other fundraisers and most organise networking events and conferences. There is also an informal Summit of national associations which meets every eighteen months.
• Philanthropy Promoting Organisations
  These organisations can be a useful source of information about trends within the donor community - especially foundations and wealthy families. Some organise conferences. 
• Governmental & Public Sector Organisations 
  Bi-lateral and multilateral agencies can be sources of funding to civil society organisations. Usually grant making is decentralised so it is best to make contact with the local mission. Please check the interests and requirements of funders carefully before submitting proposals.
• Educational Organisations 
  A number of universities and business schools run programmes in philanthropy, social enterprise and corporate social responsibility. Some offer scholarship programmes.
• Research and Publication Based Organisations
  The following organisations publish research relevant to fundraising and philanthropy. Some can be of an academic nature, but some of it is aimed at practitioners. 
• Social Enterprise
  The term 'social enterprise' usually denotes an organisation serving a social purpose which generates all or most of its revenues through fees for goods and services. Some people see this as an alternative 'model' to traditional philanthropy. The organisations listed promote and support social enterprises.
• Online giving
  In the last few years a number of websites have been launched which enables donors to give directly to specific NGOs or projects. The process for getting a project accepted varies from one site to the next. Some charge a fee and/or deduct a percentage of any funds donated to cover overheads. Please check the criteria for each site carefully.
